LABOR’S NBN SATELLITES TO BRING BROADBAND RELIEF TO THE BUSH
The first of Labor’s two NBN satellites will launch into orbit on 1 October 2015.
Duty Senator for Durack and O’Connor Glenn Sterle said this is great news for Australians living in regional Western Australia.
“The former Labor Government commissioned these satellites in 2012, with launch scheduled for 2015,” Senator Sterle said.
“At the time, the Liberal Party and the National Party opposed these satellites. They called them a Rolls-Royce solution and a waste of money.”
Shadow Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, said:
“There is enough capacity on private satellites already in orbit or scheduled for launch for the NBN to deliver broadband to the 200,000 or so premises in remote Australia without building its own.”

“In opposition, Tony Abbott sent Malcolm Turnbull to “demolish” the NBN, including these satellites,” Senator Sterle said.
“Fortunately, Labor signed the contracts for delivery of these satellites before the Liberal National Government was sworn in.
“Labor understands that broadband is an essential utility, like electricity or water. This is why Labor commissioned these satellites to give people in the bush the benefits of broadband.
“Labor’s new satellites will transform health and education delivery for the bush and improve the way small businesses do business.”
